Golden Globe Musings
After watching the Golden Globes I had few thoughts that I would like to share on this, my tumblog. This year I have been kinda slacking on the new contenders out there, I went to see nearly everything in the summer but I’ve been busy/lazy and haven’t been able to catch many Oscar contenders. Of the big ones out there I’ve been able to see Doubt and Gran Torino, both pretty good. But on to the more immediate recap of the GGs
1) Celebrities are rude. I mean come on, after every commercial break they would still be milling around chatting up a storm while the next presenter was up there trying to say their piece, can you just sit there and chat with the people at your table.
2) Colin Farrell is a big douche but he certainly is an entertaining one. I thought he was pretty awesome in “In Bruges” and his acceptance speech was fantastically doucheriffic.
3) Someone has to stop Johnny Depp. (I feel I don’t even need to go into detail on that one)
4) Whatever happened to the old stiff upper lip from the Brits, they were bawling all over the stage from Kate Winslet to Sally Hawkins. Let’s calm things down here especially in Winslet’s case I mean this ain’t the Oscars and you won twice. (Maybe I’m just bitter from her beating out my girl)
5) Tracy Morgan should have given every acceptance speech. I wonder if we can set up an awards show where the premise is just that, no matter who wins Tracy comes up and accepts on their behalf. Its pretty obvious they would be called the Tracies.
6) Yays all around for: Mad Men, Heath Ledger, John Adams and WALL.E
7) I really hope Mickey Rourke wins the Oscar. I haven’t seen The Wrestler yet but I plan on it and I mean his acceptance speech alone will be worth the price of admission, He appeared to be uncomfortable, crazy, a little drunk and in need of a shower, and thats just for the GGs I can only imagine what all the stops that will be pulled for the Oscars.
8) Indians are crazy and they have cool accents.
9) And finally you didn’t think I’d let you get away without mentioning my homegirl, Amy Adams did you? She was ravishing in black with crazy leaf earrings. Although I’m not expecting her to win I do hope she snags a Oscar nom for Doubt in which she was quite excellent.
So that basically does it for my musings. I have a lot of work to do in seeing many of the soon to be nominated movies and when I see a fair amount I will certainly unveil my Top 10 for the year and my Oscar predictions. But until that time, Courtien Out.
